King Ghazi Street Rehabilitation Project

The Greater Amman Municipality 2019 King Ghazi Street rehabilitation project has aimed at improving both pedestrian and vehicular movement in this significant artery that is located in the center of the city. The street had been overwhelmed by a 220-vehicle shared-taxi route that passes through it. This, along with heavy private vehicular traffic, as well as unregulated vehicular parking and loading / unloading activities, has resulted in chaotic levels of vehicular traffic along the street.

This project has aimed at regulating parking as well as loading / unloading activities along the street, and has provided an alternative route for the shared-taxi line. It also has included rehabilitating the street’s sidewalks, upgrading its water drainage system, re-paving it, as well as installing planting beds, streetlights, and bollards along its sides.

Although the project has resulted in marked visual and functional improvements to the street, drivers continue to essentially ignore the street’s new parking and loading / unloading regulations, which means that chaotic traffic patterns along the street still prevail. Enforcement of the new regulations seems to be non-existent, which greatly undermines the considerable and impressive efforts and resources devoted to rehabilitating this important street.

مشروع إعادة تأهيل شارع الملك غازي

إن مشروع إعادة تأهيل شارع الملك غازي الذي نفذته أمانة عمان الكبرى في عام 2019 يهدف إلى تحسين حركة المشاة والمركبات في هذا الشريان الأساسي الذي يقع في وسط المدينة. كان الشارع  يعاني من مرور خط سرفيس خلاله يتضمن 220 سيارة، هذا بالإضافة إلى حركة  كثيفة لمرور المركبات الخاصة، وإصطفاف السيارات غير المنتظم، والتحميل والتفريغ العشوائي للبضائع. وقد أدى هذا كله إلى فوضى في حركة المركبات على طول الشارع

هدف المشروع إلى تنظيم مواقف السيارات وعملية تحميل وتفريغ البضائع على طول الشارع، ووفر مساراً بديلاً لخط السرفيس الذي كان يمر به. كما تضمن المشروع إعادة تأهيل أرصفة الشارع وإعادة رصفه بالحجارة وتحديث شبكة تصريف المياه فيه، بالإضافة إلى حفر أحواض زراعية وتركيب أعمدة إناره وحواجز حجرية على جانبيه

ومع أن المشروع أدى إلى تحسينات جمالية ووظيفية ملحوظة في الشارع، إلا أن السائقين ما زالوا يتجاهلون التعليمات الجديدة بخصوص إصطفاف السيارات وتحميل وتفريغ البضائع فيه. وبذلك، ما زال الشارع يعاني من الفوضى المرورية. ويبدو أن تطبيق الجهات المسؤولة لهذه التعليمات الجديدة غير موجود، مما يقوّض إلى حد كبير الجهود والموارد الهامة والمشكورة التي كُرست لإعادة تأهيل هذا الشارع المهم
