205 entries were submitted for the 2016 ninth cycle of the Omrania | CSBE Student Award for Architectural Design. Of these, 194 qualified for consideration by the Award. Those entries came from 38 universities in eleven countries in the Arab world: Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, Yemen, and the United Arab Emirates.
The Award jury consisted of Irish architect Róisín Heneghan, cofounder of Heneghan Peng Architects; Jordanian architect Ammar Khamash, principal architect and founder of Khammash Architects; and Iranian-American architect and educator Mohsen Mostafavi, Dean of the Harvard University Graduate School of Design and the Alexander and Victoria Wiley Professor of Design there.
The Award jury members met in Amman on September 23 and 24 to evaluate the participating entries and select the winners. They identified four first-place winners, each of which is to receive USD 3,750 in prize money, and five honorable mentions.
