Jabal al-Qal’a Community Park Project

This project was carried out by the Center for the Study of the Built Environment (CSBE) and the social development organization Hamzet Wasel in 2009. Due to the lack of public parks and community spaces in Amman’s Jabal al-Qal’a area, CSBE and Hamzet Wasel organized this participatory community project to develop a design concept for a plot belonging to the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM). Through cooperation with children and families living in the area, and through a set of participatory activities that allowed the children to visualize and express their needs, a design concept and plan for a garden / playground was developed based on local needs and preferences. The design unfortunately was not implemented due to a lack of funds.
