The University of Jordan Campus

The University of Jordan is located in al-Jubayha area in the northern part of Amman along Queen Rania Street. It was established in 1962 and is Jordan's oldest university. The university campus, which now covers an area of 120 hectares, has grown since its establishment and has spread to accommodate new buildings and facilities. The area surrounding the campus has also undergone intense development to now house a large number of residential, commercial, academic, and medical buildings.

The university campus stands out among the surrounding urban area as a green lung since it includes a considerable amount of greenery and accommodates a large number of plant species. A natural forest covers about 6% of the total area of the campus. Moreover, another area that takes up approximately 6% of the campus consists of gardens and green areas. The continuous expansion of the university, however, is eating up an increasing amount of the site's open and green areas.
